Puppy Update: Today was a big day for Lacey's puppies.... first bath and first time outside! They loved playing with the leaves as the wind blew them around. Our puppies are enjoying being out in our family space, they love all the attention they get from the kids and from Aunty Willow. I can tell that Willow is going to be a great mama, she loves these babies as if they were her own!

Lacey's pups have already caught on to using the potty area - they've been my easiest litter to teach so far. They're eating 3 mushy meals a day and already weigh between 3.0lbs and 4lbs13oz. The smaller ones in the litter will take after dad in size and the larger ones will take after mom.

Maggie is expecting a litter of pups just after Thanksgiving and although not official, we've already begun to see early signs of confirmed pregnancy. Maggie's upcoming litter is our first dual sired litter. This will be Doc's first attempt at being a daddy so we used RUE as a back up to help ensure a litter. All the chocolate pups will be RUE's and we'll be DNA testing all cream puppies so we know who the daddy is. Can't wait to see what Doc is able to produce!!

A letter from a happy puppy family:

Gina........ Thanks so much for the birthday email and note about the photo contest. I will have to wait on the photo until my daughter is home, since I do not know how to send a photo via email....... I will try to get it to you by Monday!?!

I was so happy to get your email because I have been meaning to write and update you on Lucy, aka Zion....and I cannot believe that almost a year has passed!  She has been such a joy!... we just love her dearly! She is just the best dog! She has been to obedient school and was one of the best students in the class.... the teacher often used her as the "example" puppy. She has actually completed two classes. She is calm, obedient, smart, cute, sweet, loving, etc....... She is so adaptable... she has been back and forth to our lake cottage all summer and just acts like she has been doing it for years. People are constantly stopping me and asking me about her...... she does not know a stranger!  We just could not be happier with her!

We look at your website every so often and think "maybe we should get another one!"... time will tell...... who knows!?!

Thank you for everything and I will try to keep more in touch in the future!

Judy

People always ask me what the best time of the year is to get a new puppy. Some people think that summer is ideal but remember that often summers are filled with trips, camping, holidays etc. Puppies thrive on routine! Summer is often anything but!

I think the best time to get a puppy is when you're going to be sticking close to home, following a regular routine and when you're able to attend a puppy socialization/obedience class one night per week.

Maggie's pups will be ready for their new families in late January/early February. The advantage of this time of year is that by the time summer roles around, your pup is fully vaccinated, housebroken, finished with puppy socialization classes and has some basic obedience under his belt. Now he's ready for all that summer has to offer..... days at the beach, camping, vacations, etc.

We've begun doing the Neurological Stimulating Exercises for our newest batch of little ones:

  • On day three of the puppy’s life we begin early neurological stimulation exercises practiced daily between the ages of 3 - 16 days.  This gives the puppy’s neurological system a head start.  It consists of 5 different exercises designed to stimulate the neurological system.  The five exercises are:
  1. Tactile stimulation - holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently stimulates the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
  2. Head held erect - using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
  3. Head pointed down - holding the pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
  4. Supine position - holding the pup so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.
  5. Thermal stimulation - using a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. The pup is placed on the towel, feet down. It is not restrained from moving. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.

These exercises impact the neurological system by jump starting it into action earlier than would otherwise be expected. The benefits include: improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress and a greater resistance to disease.

It's been busy around here lately! Lacey gave birth to a stunning litter of puppies and Maggie has been honeymooning with RUE this week. RUE lives with his guardian family but is here for the week so we decided to do a little photoshoot of our "big" man.
